FAMILY PROGRAM
PARENT AND CHILD NEED TO ATTEND THE PRACTICE THAT IS LISTED UNDER THE COMMUNION DATE THAT YOU WILL BE PARTICIPATING IN.
PRACTICES ARE NOT INTERCHANGABLE
FORMS – Complete and return the First Communion Form A.S.A.P. if you have not already done so. A late fee will go into effect on March 1, 2007 .
SEATING – Half a pew per family is reserved (6 people total including the 1 st Communicant). Attached is a form for any families that are related to each other and want to sit together or of any families that require handicap seating. There is extra seating at the rear of the church available on the day of 1 st Communion on a first come first serve basis. We have had plenty of room in past years. ONLY IF YOU HAVE ANY REQUESTS, PLEASE HAND THE SPECIAL REQUEST FORM IN TONIGHT OR IN THE NEXT WEEK.
SPECIAL PARTICIPANTS – Notify us tonight (form provided in packet) of family priests or siblings that are already servers that would like to participate in the Mass.
COMMUNION BANNER – The directions for the banner are in this packet. Please bring your banner with you on the day of your child’s Communion and hang over your side of the pew.
APPAREL – Girls: white dress, veil or flowers in hair
Boys: dress pants, shirt, tie, (color of your choice) – optional: suit or sports jacket.
ROSARY - Please purchase a rosary for your child. Bring it to the practice and First Communion as the children will be carrying them in the entrance procession.
ENTRANCE PROCESSION – The children will process in down the center aisle and circle round twice so that people sitting in all positions can see them. As I already mentioned, they will be processing in with their rosaries. When your child returns to the pew please put the rosary away so that they are not distracted by them during the Mass.
CLOSING PROCESSION – The children will process out and then return to their pew so that they are joined with you and don’t get lost in the crowd. They do not need their rosaries to process out. If you desire to take pictures after Mass with the presider, form a line down the center aisle.
PICTURES/VIDEO – It is strongly suggested that you purchase a video of the First Communion so that you can enjoy the day. A form is provided in the packet.
- Photographs with flash may be used only during the entrance procession as the Mass has not yet begun.
- There is no flash photography during the Mass for any reason.
- Filming with video cameras is allowed but only if used sitting in your seat.
- NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO STAND IN THE AISLE.
- You may form a line after Mass down the center aisle to take pictures with the presider.
- Feel free to take pictures before or after Mass in the church.
FIRST COMMUNION – All six people in your pew go up to communion with the 1 st Communicant and circle around him/her. We will rehearse this at our practice. People sitting in other areas of the church may not join the 1 st Communicant as it would create confusion in the line. The cup will be offered as an option. Discuss this at home with your child and decide what your family will do. If you decide to have your child take the cup please have them taste wine at home so that it will not be their first time. We are not practicing this in school as it is your choice.
RELIGIOUS ARTICLES – If you happen to be buying your child some religious articles such as medals, prayer books, keepsakes, etc. and would like them blessed please bring them to the Communion Practice. There are many religious book/gift shops and jewelry stores which you can find in the yellow pages or advertised in our bulletin.
